Volume #238: Mutilation Barbecue – “Flesh Regenerated”
Release Date: April 10th 2026
Good evening to all you mad metal maniacs. I hope this installment of the RbRR finds you well. I am here to hit you with some back breaking new music that was recently released. It is, of course, the new Mutilation Barbecue EP “Flesh Regenerated.” For those of you who don’t know, Mutilation Barbecue is a five man Death Metal band known for their abysmally low gutturals, intense Drumwork and vicious Guitar solos. Yet their sound is too varied and nuanced to be labeled a simply Death Metal. There are a lot of other influences at work in their sound, which is what makes them such an exceptional band. If you listen closely you can hear echoes of Dimebag Darrell and Jeff Hanneman tucked away in the MutiBBQ sound. Don’t get me wrong, they’re Death Metal to the core. I’m just trying to highlight some of the many ways that they stand out from their peers.
Mutilation Barbecue
Now on to the EP... “Flesh Regenerated” is the follow up to their monster 2024 album “Amalgamations of Gore.” So I suppose I’ll start by addressing the elephant in the room: The Vocals. Yes, it is true we have a new frontman in the MutiBBQ Crew. Naturally, any time a band has a change at the Vocalist position, it is a trial by fire. Here in Mutilation Barbecue that is certainly true. When Chris Maggot exited the band he left some seriously big shoes to fill. At that time I was, shall we say, concerned for the future of the BBQ. Enter Vocalist Tristan Wright. He’s the “New Guy.” When I got the chance to see MutiBBQ perform with Tristan, I have to say, he checked all the boxes. While it was initially weird seeing someone new fronting the band... I had to admit the kid had the chops. It was undeniable. So now, months later we get the “Flesh Regenerated” EP. The first offering of this new era. And once again, he is undeniable. The simple fact is this: Mutilation Barbecue has delivered four new songs of thundering, devastating, bone crunching Death Metal.
My favorite is the title track, “Flesh Regenerated.” It’s nothing short of a demon in auditory form. It is so uncompromisingly savage. So purely heavy, down to its last note, that it boggles the mind. The tempo is relentless. The Vocal patterns are brilliant. The Guitar work is outstanding and the Bass is absolutely bottomless. The song is very well constructed, with a lot of changes and smooth transitions. Also there is an amazing breakdown towards the end of the song. It gives way to a shredding solo, which the song rides out to it’s eventual conclusion. The three remaining songs on the album all measure up as well. Each track is a beast in it’s own right. Each one a beautiful expression of brutality. Though the EP is only a quick 14 minutes in length, it leaves a massive impression. The ever expanding sonic footprint of MutilationBarbecue is truly earthshaking. What else can I say about this record? I mean, I love the thing. It’s truly fantastic Death Metal. If you’re a fan of the subgenre, then you should 100% give this a listen. Mutilation Barbecue is a unique voice in the Death Metal world; a Kaiju risen from the Cleveland underground. They are the monsters that stomp and trample all who dare to cross their paths. They lay waste to all they encounter. They destroy. It’s been true since the first EP and it is continues to be true on “Flesh Regenerated.” On that note, I will bring this review to a close. I thank you for reading and for supporting the Scene. Bang your heads, hoist your Horns and always wear your earplugs.
Until next time, Rock on, Rustbelt,
