Volume #255: The Robert Conn Band – “Rock & Roll Casualties”
Good morning my brothers and sisters in Rock. I am so pleased to again have the opportunity to share with you some new music. This week I am taking a listen to the new album from The Robert Conn Band. This band is an interesting blend of subgenres including Punk, Rockabilly and good old fashion Rock N’ Roll. They are known for hard Rockin’ tempos, aggressive Vocals and a message of rebellion. “Rock & Roll Casualties” is a stomping debut that will no doubt propel the band forward. Now, before I say too much, lets take a look at a few stand out tracks.
First I want to talk about the album opener, “RCB.” This on launches the release with a sharp Drum roll and a “One, two, fuck you!” The song is a like a shotgun blast of Rock N’ Roll. Hard driving Drums carry the song forward with a righteous rhythm. The riffs are equally concussive, and rippin’ like a buzzsaw. The Vocals are clean with a rough and wild edge that comes across as a touch of insanity. All in all its a killer track that sets the energy level to an appropriate 11.

Next we have to discuss “Live & Die for Rock & Roll.” This starts with a nice little intro before it jumps into another crushing riff. That riff is backed by some solid Guitar licks, all leading to a Vocal eruption. This song is another forceful assault on the air waves. The Bass and Drums really provide a fat low end. The lead Guitars run wild, spicing up an already steaming sauce. Meanwhile the Vocalist proclaims, “I live and die for Rock and Roll, Don’t ever try to save my soul,” with an unshakable defiance. This song is another testament to the rebellious spirit of Rock and to the power of embracing it as more than mere entertainment, but rather as a lifestyle.
The last song I have to mention is “Live Fast, Die Old,” yet another killer track. This one is aimed at the older demographic; those of us who actually survived our youths and still carry the torch of Rock N’ Roll into middle age and beyond. The riffs are compelling, as is the Bass line. This song has a lot more groove to it than the other tracks we’ve talked about. Despite this it still has a Rockin’ rhythm and a party vibe. The chorus instructs the listener to “live fast, die old, do drugs, be bold, don’t do, what your told, live fast die old!” This song packs a simple message, that while our bodies will eventually breakdown and betray us in the end, Rock N’ Roll will power our spirits for all our lives.

So ultimately, what do I think about The Robert Conn Band’s “Rock & Roll Casualties?” I have to say I think it’s a home run. It is a very solid recording and a great representation of the band’s sound. I’ve seen RCB more than a few times at this point and I can testify that this recording had done a good job of capturing their live energy. With driving rhythms, good riffs and great leads the music is fundamentally strong. Simultaneously the Vocal performance is equal to it in every way. With energy, passion, and a good dose of venom, the singer spills his guts and makes his demands of the fans. Combine these elements and throw in a “spit in your face” mentality and you’ve got The Robert Conn Band in a nutshell. So yeah, I highly recommend The Robert Conn Band and their new release “Rock & Roll Casualties.” Pick it up at the merch table, download it, stream it… do all the things.. just consume this music as quickly as humanely possible.
